Webinar: Talking about race – a panel discussion

In the first of our series on diversity and inclusion in coaching, chapter president Dave Huxtable brings together an expert panel of coaches and diversity professionals to discuss the fundamental questions about race and coaching:

  • Why does race matter in coaching?
  • Should we raise the topic of race? If so, when and how?
  • What are some recommended best practices in this area?

Chris Smith Susana Rinderle Rafael Durand
Chris Smith is the Principal & CEO of Exponential Development Group, an executive coaching and leadership development firm. He is a certified executive, relationship, and cultural competency coach and a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF). Chris is a proud United States Army veteran with 20 years of experience in higher education as an administrator and instructor at several universities across the country. Chris is currently completing his Ph.D. in Leadership, conducting research on the lived experiences of women middle managers. He resides in Jackson, Mississippi with his wife/business partner and hopes to assist in chartering an ICF chapter in the state. Susana Rinderle, MA, ACC, helps leaders solve a pressing problem or go from good to great through the power of inclusive leadership.  She’s spent 25 years garnering results for clients and employers across the U.S. and abroad in nonprofit, corporate, healthcare, education and government.  Susana was the co-founder and first Manager of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for UNM Hospitals, and held a university position in Guadalajara, Mexico.  She’s a former TEDx speaker, and published in Workforce Magazine, The Huffington Post, Diversity Executive, and Training Magazine. She is a Principal Consultant at Korn Ferry.  Rafael Durand is an Executive coach focused on expatriate transitions, leadership development and personal empowerment. He has 36 years of diverse professional experience as a lawyer, Human Resources executive, board member and organizational coach. Born and raised in Mexico, He developed his professional career working for the Gillette Company in Mexico City, Boston and Istanbul, as well as with the International Paper Company in Santiago de Chile, Memphis, TN and Sao Paulo Brazil. Rafael is a graduate of the Columbia University’s Coaching Certification Program.

 

The MC

Dave Huxtable, ACC is president of ICF Orange County. Originally from the UK, he moved to California three years ago to open his coaching practice. Before that, he was a long-term expatriate working with diverse teams in China, Mexico, Russia, Indonesia, Italy and Ecuador among other places. He describes his passion as "delighting in diversity". This, along with a strong sense of justice, has led him to champion diversity and inclusion as an integral part of his leadership roles.
