President's Message

Happy Spring Fellow Coaches!

This time of the year promises new beginnings: flower and tree buds bloom, the animal kingdom comes out of hibernation (and many of us humans, too), evenings start to lose their winter chill, days start to get longer, and the earth seems to come alive again. Many of us celebrate Easter, Passover, Ramadan, and other religious and non-religious holidays that typically mark this season. In short, spring is a time for us to embark on new journeys and start new projects with fresh ideas.

Your ICF Membership
Hopefully by now you have renewed your ICF membership, or joined if you’re not already part of our community. If not, it’s not too late! You can do either by following instructions here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Membership Director Karen Holmes or me at [email protected]

Global Leaders Forum 2021
Earlier this month I joined about 80 other chapter leaders at the 2021 Global Leaders Forum. Highlights that likely will be of interest to you:

- ICF Global has rebranded its look and at the same time reorganized according to six “Family Organizations”: ICF Professional Coaches, ICF Credentials and Standards, ICF Coach Training, ICF Foundation, ICF Coaching in Organizations, and ICF Thought Leadership Institute. Please take a few minutes to look at the new branding and check out this new “ecosystem” here.

- If you have an ethics or compliance question at any time, feel free to send a message to the ICF Ethics Assist Line or call the hotline at 1-859-226-4245. Check out other Ethics resources here, including the complimentary Ethics course that you need to fulfill your ICF credential renewal.

- ICF has added two new communities of practice –Coaching Supervision and Coach Training-- bringing that number up to 11. These communities are a member benefit and offer a great way to connect with virtual groups of coaches interested in the same topic while earning CCEUs.

- Claim your ICF digital badge to give your personal coaching brand additional credibility and show clients that you are committed to coaching excellence and ethical practices.

Your ICF Local Chapter -- ICF Orange County
Your Board of Directors has been working tirelessly to plan and bring you a full calendar of events that includes big name speakers such as Marshall Goldsmith on May 4 and 20, local coaches and authors such as Nada Lena Nasserdeen this Thursday April 15 and Michelle Fetters on June 22, and our very own Board and Committee members Nahid Casazza and Raffi Sarafian on April 20. Back by popular demand we are also re-launching our community meetings under “Wine, Cheese & Chat”, our Book Club, and many more webinars and meetings, many of which carry CCEUs. Please register early, especially for the Marshall Goldsmith events that promise to be near Zoom capacity!

Monthly Favorites: Quotes, Coaching Questions, and Resources from our Board Member Camber Hill – with a touch of (mostly) unedited “Camber humor”

A quote if from a most unlikely source, The Wheel of Fortune in the Tarot deck, that Camber has loved so much that he printed it on his marketing brochures:

"The quality of your involvement is the measure of your reward"

With coaching/consulting
The Prosperous Coach book by Rich Litvin and also his weekly newsletter that is always loaded with great value and insight. Many coaches reportedly put Camber to sleep, but Rich (who has coached Camber twice) is a great teacher and coach.

Positive Intelligence book and program by Shirzad Chamine. Camber thinks this is a great “side plate” for coaches, as do I and a few other Board members who followed his program. The book was the topic of a recent Book Club meeting, too.

Camber’s go-to for professional development to stir up his consciousness
Michael Hyatt. Camber bumped into Hyatt's podcast 5-6 years back and found him to be a solid man with morals and ethics; moreover, Michael was CEO for years of one of the longest running publishing companies in history (Thomas Nelson, 1798 till present).

For Camber's personal and spiritual development (the backbone of his coaching)
Michael Bernard Beckwith. Camber has followed Michael since 1985, and says “Boy, he's something else. When Oprah is in town she's at Agape. Back in the day when Mrs.Correta Scott King, (MLK's wife) was visiting LA, she attended Beckwith's Sunday services.”
